Audi Program Turns Veterans into Technicians | Rochester Audi in Rochester, MN

Earlier this month, the Audi Veterans to Technicians program celebrated the program’s 200th hire of a United States military veteran to an Audi service position.

The program, which began in 2013, matches former military servicemen and women to parts and technician positions in Audi dealerships. Members of the program are veterans are transitioning out of the military with experience in areas such as automotive, aviation, welding, electronics, hydraulic systems and maritime systems.

Audi and the Veterans to Technicians program believes that veterans are the perfect fit for the brand due to their experience, skills and integrity.

Program manager for CALIBRE Systems Bernard Hyland says that the “superior work ethic and uncompromising commitment to quality workmanship” of our nation’s veterans are what makes this program so successful. CALIBRE, an Audi business partner, facilitates the Audi Veterans to Technicians program.

Most of the Audi dealers across the country have begun to hire veterans, with some dealers hiring as many as 10 in their service departments.

Every branch of military service is represented among the 200 employed veterans, including Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard.

Program applicants receive interview preparation assistance and hands-on coaching. Once hired, veterans attend the Audi Fast Track Training Program and become brand certified. Upon program completion, participants are offered a deal where Audi pays a significant portion of a brand-new complete set of Snap-On tools to get participants’ careers off to an even better start.

According to a report by the Labor Department, the unemployment rate among veterans who joined the military post-9/11 was 7.2 percent last year. Programs focused on helping retired military personnel transition back into civilian life have become increasingly popular.

Since its inception in 2013, Audi has helped 200 veterans (about 100 each year) and hopes to see the program continue to grow and flourish as the demand for highly-skilled service employees increases.
